Cancer Genetics

Cancer Genetics

If there is a history of cancer in your family, you need to know the cancer risks for you and your children. Hereditary cancer is caused by mutations (changes) in the genes. These genetic mutations can be passed down (inherited) from either parent and there is a 50% chance that the mutation will be passed along to the child. We provide genetic testing that screens for certain cancer-causing mutations, and out expert medical staff will help you understand the results and your options. Though it may be difficult to face the potential of cancer for you and your family, the Hereditary Cancer Program at Northside Hospital is here to help.

The program is staffed by high caliber nurses and doctors. All the medical professionals with the Hereditary Cancer Program understand the importance of your decision to be tested. Our cancer genetic counselor is specially trained to provide cancer risk assessment, counseling and genetic testing.
